Wendy Barrett was born during the war in 1944 by chance in a stately home in England. She grew up in an old Roman town in the Thames Valley between Windsor Castle and Hampton Court.

Her exposure to magnificent glass windows in the churches and cathedrals during her youth sowed the seeds of her mature passion for glass.

Despite her first public recognition as an artist in 1956 when her picture was hung in the Royal Drawing Society’s Exhibition Hall in London (The Children’s Royal Academy), she was not encouraged to develop her artistic education.

Barrett immigrated to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada in 1968 and worked professionally first as a physiotherapist then as a psychotherapist. She balanced her exposure to the wounds of others with her creative work.

People who saw her glass gave her many commissions over the years but her identification lay elsewhere.

In this astrological time of her second Saturn return on the threshold of her sixties she has decided to turn more fully towards the ever-present artist and assume more of that identity.

Her studio is in her Vancouver home, which she shares with her partner. She designs her work at their peaceful cabin on Gabriola Island.
